About Us
Rouse Hill Town Centre - Darug Country
We acknowledge the Darug people as the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which Rouse Hill Town Centre rests. We acknowledge the Elders, both past, present and emerging.
Rouse Hill Town Centre resides upon the sacred land of the Darug People. The Darug nation (also spelt Dharuk, Dharug and Daruk) is a language group of First Nations Australians who are the traditional custodians of much of what is modern day Sydney.
The Darug territory includes the Cumberland Plain area in Western Sydney, stretching from Wisemans Ferry in the north down to the Camden area in the south. It also extends into the foothills of the Blue Mountains in the west and the Hills District to the east.
The Darug nation was divided up into a number of clans who each tended to live in a certain geographical area.
Today, there is an active push to create awareness of the local Darug culture and its history and also create recognition of the deeper significance of the areas in which we all live.
At Rouse Hill Town Centre, we extend a warm welcome to all First Nations people and pay our respect to their ongoing connection to land, water and community.
Rouse Hill Town Centre opened in 2007 and changed the face of retail and residential living in North Western Sydney. Designed for the community, Rouse Hill Town Centre is located in the Hills District as part of The New Rouse Hill, approximately 45 kilometres north west of the Sydney CBD.
Rouse Hill Town Centre combines the traditional values and streetscape of a contemporary market town with the latest fashion, homewares, dining, community services and lifestyle choices. With over 230 specialty stores including Woolworths, Coles, Big W, Kmart and a Reading Cinema, you’re bound to find what you need in the convenience of the Town Centre.
Winning several international planning & design awards, Rouse Hill Town Centre is different to a shopping centre, because it’s a Town Centre. It’s filled with learning spaces including Lynn's Learning & Skill Samurai plus Vinegar Hill Library. Rouse Hill Town Centre also accommodates interactive play areas for children (The Backyard and The Play Terrace) and respite areas for families (The Secret Garden).
Rouse Hill Town Centre has been planned as a sustainable shopping destination with entertainment and facilities for all the family. Check out our environmental and community pages for more information on how GPT has integrated sustainability into the planning of the Town Centre for the community.
